Health Record Practitioners make a valuable contribution to the health care system through the collection and management of health information.

Our unique knowledge base encompasses biomedical sciences, health data classification, information and record management, information technology, the health care delivery system and medicolegal aspects in health allowing us to provide an essential information support service which contributes to:

the delivery and evaluation of patient care
administrative decision making
financial planning
resource allocation
education of physicians and other health professionals
protection of confidentiality
research, statistics and epidemiology

The Health Information Services Program at Douglas College is the sole program in British Columbia preparing individuals to manage health information in a variety of settings in the health care industry.
